The idea for this story God Picks up the Tab came to me during a drunken theological discussion. If that sounds offensive, you have been warned.

Here is an excerpt from God Picks Up the Tab:

Our meals arrived. We ate in silence for a while. I was glad of the chance to absorb what he had been telling me. For the record, God really enjoys good chow.

For some reason, this surprised me. I don't know whether I was expecting monastic austerity, or holy disdain for humble sustenance, but I certainly wasn't prepared for the sight of Himself mopping the sauce off His plate with a piece of garlic bread. Picture that in Da Vinci's Last Supper.

The second, I wish I had been drunk at the times these stories took place! Staring at Bruno, Waiting to Die is loosely based on my suicidal escapades with my insane-but-lovable friends.

Here is an excerpt from Staring at Bruno, Waiting to Die:

He had not, however, purchased his car for its ability to slow down. It was soon clear that we were not going to stop in time. He wrenched the wheel violently to the right, hoping to negotiate the circle . We entered what a fighter pilot would call a flat spin. Traditionally, such a maneuver in an automobile was referred to as a "donut", but as we were traveling at speeds usually reserved for aircraft, I think "flat spin" is more appropriate.
